Worth Reading Wednesday: Christian Votes for Various Candidates

For today's "Worth Reading Wednesday", I'm just going to point you towards four articles from Think Christian about voting for various presidential candidates.  So often I hear that Christians must vote for so-and-so because it is the "more" Christian person or party (for various reasons).  But here are four different people explaining why their faith leads them to vote for a particular candidate.

A Christian Vote for Obama

A Christian Vote for Romney

A Christian Vote for Gary Johnson

A Christian Vote for Jill Stein

What do you think?  Can you understand and empathize with each of these articles?  Can you look beyond your own opinions to really see why a person of the same faith may vote differently than you?  What role does your faith play in how you vote or who you vote for?

Kelly - Thanks for sharing these posts. I really like and appreciate it when people share their reasons behind their positions and decisions in a way that allows open and honest discussion. I have gotten rather frustrated with one-sided discussions that shut out opinions and belittle the person with the opposing view.

"As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to
quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while
the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise
the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on
the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment
on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands
or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand." Romans 14:1-4

Thanks for sharing! I look forward to reading these ideas. I agree that Christians can differ on political issues and candidates.

It's been so frustrating and discouraging to see people demean others' opinions and stances. It's nice to have a way to specifically contrast and compare. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment, Stephanie. Yes it is nice when people share their reasons that do seem to be thought out rather than just sharing points that are regurgitated (which I am probably guilty of at times too).

I think the key to disagreeing is if we realize that our political views are *secondary* to our faith and to the kingdom of God.

You're welcome! I don't watch much tv so I actually don't see a lot of the negativity, which is great. I do see Facebook conversations but I can take those better than commercials.
